Aug 1 – The focus of this week’s prayer letter is again on Kingdom Building, particularly on connecting with God’s mission in Christ. The prayers are written by Charlotte Adjepong.
Psalm 46:10, ‘Be still, and know that I am God, I will be honoured by every nation, I will be honoured throughout the world.’
This verse encourages us to reflect on who God is. It encourages us to take the time to meditate on the Scriptures, and be silent with listening ears.
Lord Jesus, we confess that many times we fight our battles in our own way and by our own effort, but soon grow weary and give in to defeat. This happens because we are fighting battles that require You, Lord Jesus to intervene.
You are the only one who is undefeated and can conquer any enemy. Lord Jesus, we need to put our own weapons down and acknowledge, trust and believe that You have the power to save, to conquer any foe we face throughout our day – Jesus, thank You that You are a part of our lives, and call us to walk with You at all times.
Lord Jesus, I pray that people will stop for a moment throughout their day and turn their attention to You. That they will commit everything that they are facing and give it to You who fights our battles. We surrender our weapons and let You, Jesus, take charge. Amen
Aug 2 – ‘See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland’ (Isaiah 43:19).
God actively does new things around and through us. He is a God who is forever moving forward. There is no timeframe when He says, ‘I am doing a new thing’ it can and does apply to today , to this moment. There is never a time where God is not doing something new in our lives or situations. Preparing us for something new.
God come and do a new thing in the middle of the ways of today; come and do a new and creative thing in the hearts of Your people in Telford Elim, in person and online. Come and be the light within their homes; come afresh and bring families together in unity in Christ; come anew and be creative within businesses. God come afresh as we stand in faith and believe that You will answer our prayers.
God, I pray about the wilderness of sin in our nation, in people’s lives and their situations. God breathe upon their circumstances like it says in Isaiah 43:19, ‘I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.’
God come in a new creative way in the midst of their circumstances even when they feel that all is lost. Let them feel Your presence – let them see Your light in Christ, and know that Jesus is the answer. He brings hope – He transforms – He revives what is dead.
You make a way in the wilderness – let the people see Your ways, God, revive Your people and bring them through. I pray in Your mighty name, Jesus. Amen
Aug 3 – Father, we pray today for our church we can specifically pray for You to continue to move in people’s lives. We are not victims of this world but instead, in Christ, we are victors.
We ourselves can move heaven and earth with our prayers because prayer moves Your hand to act on our behalf. We pray for people who feel burdened, isolated, lonely – that they will be set free, will be refreshed with Your Spirit’s living water and Your word’s fresh bread.
We pray that people will learn how to capture every negative thought and bring it in submission to Christ. We pray that many will read, study and meditate on Your word, and that Your Spirit will renew their thinking. As our thinking is renewed we see new opportunities that come before us, and are able to start grabbing hold of these and making something Christ-honouring from them.
1 Corinthians 2:9 says, ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived – the things God has prepared for those who love Him.’
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You create pathways even when we are in the midst of chaos and confusion – 1 Corinthians 14:33, ‘For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.’ God, when You speak, clarity comes forth, revival breaks out, You are the way, the truth and the answer to all their questions.
Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (John 14:6). Let Your people reconnect with You today, and build a deeper relationship with You, Lord; let them feel loved, let them have joy in their hearts. Amen
Aug 4 – How to live in the blessings of God’s rest, peace and grace. In John 10:10 it says, ‘A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!’
Jesus died on the cross and suffered to make that sacrifice for us, to open the doorway to the provision of God’s Amazing Grace. We need to ask for that grace to make our life easier. The key ingredient to an abundant life in Christ is living by God’s grace through Faith.
His Grace helps us through life. We can try to do everything in our own strength, but we come to a point where we become tired, frustrated by our own mistakes or failures, or even our day to day routines. When we lean into God’s grace – we actually enter into His perfect rest, and we can enjoy life once more, no matter what circumstance we find ourselves in.
When we join with God to do what He has called us to do – it is by His grace that we can get on. Also, it is trusting in Him with the things we cannot do, or find hard to do, and leave them in His hands – trusting He will do it. Hebrews 4:3 states, ‘For we who have believed enter that rest.’ So we start by believing…
Ephesians 2:8 says, For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.’ Isn’t it great to know that God is always with us – He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He always gives us the Grace for all that we have to do and all we need in life – when we ask Him for it.
So today, trust God’s complete love for you, do what you can do, make sure you give to God the things you can’t. So when you feel you can’t keep going, and you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a second to refocus, give it to God and enter into His rest.
Almighty Father, we thank You for our lives. We give You praise for Your abundant love, grace and mercy that You give us each new day. We thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You that You are always with us, even when we don’t feel Your presence.
Thank You that we can enter into Your rest and be assured that You are in control of all what we give You. Thank You for the joy You give us. It is never dependent on our circumstances but it is our true and lasting strength. Hallelujah Lord. In Jesus’ precious name i pray Amen
Aug 5 – Holy Spirit , our perfect Counsellor.
When we think of counselling – we think of talking to a friend, or going to see someone who is trained to listen and help us to see our struggles in a new light, and help us to move forward. Teach us how to consult Your Holy Spirit for wisdom, comfort and freedom from mental, emotional or spiritual bondage.
Holy Spirit, we know that You are the Counsellor of truth, our Helper in time of need, and the One who fills us up with the life of God. Holy Spirit, I pray that we can come into greater intimacy with You. You comfort us with Your peace that goes beyond all understanding.
Holy Spirit, I ask today for godly guidance, as it says in psalm 37:4 to delight yourselves in the Lord – so we boldly seek to do so today. Experiencing the heart of the Father is our greatest desire, for we know His plans are best for us, and in the end will glorify the King of the Kingdom, the Lord Jesus.
Holy Spirit please lead us by Your wisdom, discernment and kindness throughout our lives. Come and fill our homes with Your presence, touch us, touch each church family member – let them feel Your presence, Lord. Set alight their hearts, and bring them to join in prayer with others. Father, help them to set aside time to pray.
Praying to You, Lord, is important because it strengthens our communication with You, and brings us deeper into relationship both with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Father, I pray for any barrier or stronghold that is stopping anybody to pray to come down – in the mighty name of Jesus; soften hearts, awaken a yearning within. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Aug 6 – It is important that we realise that we are all called on a mission by the Spirit to witness for Jesus, telling others about Christ. As we witness it brings glory to God. Jesus says in John 15:8, ‘by this My father is glorified, that You produce much fruit – so You will be My disciples.’
Because we know Jesus, and we know His love for us, to this we want to tell people about this love we have, In Paul’s words, ‘the love of Christ constrains us.’ We need to share our faith in Christ as it’s a direct command from the Lord Himself. He says, ‘Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men,’ and ‘you did not choose Me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.’
God wants us to witness because of the benefits He offers to those who receive Christ through His word and us. In becoming children of God – their sins are forgiven, they experience the peace and love of God, they receive God’s direction and purpose for their lives, they experience the power of God to change their lives, and they have the reassurance of eternal life as His sons and daughters.
When we witness it stimulates our spiritual growth; witnessing leads us to pray and study God’s word, and encourage us to depend on Christ. As we witness in the power of the Holy Spirit, we sow love, joy and peace.
As we do this we will receive the benefit so when we sow the seed of love we will harvest love, if we sow the seed of joy we will reap joy, if we sow the seed of peace we will reap peace. The harvest is always greater than what we have sown.
The Holy Spirit has been given to us to provide us with the power for us to witness God wants us to experience the immense favour and honour in representing Jesus to our community. In Paul’s letter, 2 Corinthians 5, he wrote, ‘we are Christ’s ambassadors, God is using us to speak to you , as though Christ himself were here pleading with you, receive the love he offers you- be reconciled to God.’ So, as believers in Christ, we are ambassadors for the King of kings and the Lord of lords!
Father, I pray that You will help each one of us to embrace the mission to witness about Jesus. I pray for spiritual preparation, development and boldness. I pray for the opportunities to proclaim the goodness of His name as we go out. Bring us into contact with those who have been given eyes to see and ears to hear, direct our steps and lead us into the conversations You want us to have about the Lord Jesus. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen
Aug 7 – Psalm 16:5-11, Lord, You alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. 6 The land You have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! 7 I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. 9 No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. 10 For You will not leave my soul among the dead or allow Your holy one to rot in the grave. 11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence, and the pleasures of living with You forever.’
Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, how great and wonderful You are, Thank You that You alone are our inheritance, and that we can praise You all the time. Thank You, we can rest and be assured that You have our best interest at heart, and guide us by Your Holy Spirit down the right path You have for each of us.
Thank You that we can rejoice in living lives filled with your Spirit, You singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to You. How great and faithful You are, Lord Jesus. In Your precious name, I pray. Amen.
