The following are developed from my sermon notes, 7-7-2024, on God’s faithfulness:
July 8 – Father, it is a wonderful biblical truth that You, the Son and Holy Spirit are faithful. Deuteronomy 32:3-4, CSB,
‘3For I will proclaim the Lord’s name. Declare the greatness of our God! 4The Rock — his work is perfect; all his ways are just. A faithful God, without bias, he is righteous and true.’
Our faithful God without bias who is righteous and true.
Lamentations 3:22-23, CSB,
‘Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for his mercies never end. 23They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!’
You are faithful in love, full of mercy, and continually, faithfully love us in Christ. Hallelujah. Amen.
July 9 – In Christian doctrine there are two parts to God’s character, also known as His attributes – what makes Him God: Incommunicable attributes and His communicable attributes.
His incommunicable are not shared or communicated with His creation; whereas, His communicable attributes are revealed and shared or communicated.
Father, You are God above all others. Although Your incommunicable attributes are impossible for us to truly grasp nor understand; nevertheless, there are aspects of each imbedded in our nature as reflections of You, our Creator.
You are eternal – but we are mortal. Thank You that in Christ we have the promise of future immortality – the gift of eternal life. Your communicable attributes are reflected in Creation and in our lives. Imperfectly, but nevertheless still there.
We pray for Christ to be formed in each one of us so more of You is revealed in us. Amen.
July 10 – Father, Your self-existence is impossible for humankind to comprehend. You are completely independent and do not need anyone else. Thank You that You nevertheless love the heavenly beings and Your believers on earth to give You thanks, praise and worship, serving Christ and giving Him glory.
These are the rightful response of Your Creation to their Creator.
As the self-existent One, Your infinity means that You are without limitation in every regard – known as immutability. You are unchanging and true – omnipotent: all powerful – omnipresent: everywhere present and eternal – omniscient: all knowing. You see and know everything, these all point to Your infinity.
Holy Spirit, help us to grasp the importance of these truths, and to lead us into a deeper appreciation of the authority and power of our God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
July 11 – Father, You are united in Trinity in perfect love – You are perfectly One in unity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This unity means that You are not a compartmentalised God. You are whole, and Your wholeness indivisible. You are complete, and each attribute is complete in You. Hallelujah!
Your communicable attributes mean that we can know Your Holy Spirit as we know You, because God is Spirit.
We also declare that You are love – holy – just – righteous – merciful – faithful – wrathful – good – peace – jealous – glorious – true – wise – righteous – blessed – beautiful – joyful – and perfect. You are all You say You are.
We pray for our sanctification so that elements of Your communicable attributes can be formed in us, and we therefore more fully bear witness to the awesomeness of the Lord Jesus our Saviour and Lord. Amen.
July 12 – Farther, I give thanks and praise that the attributes listed yesterday are known as Your communicable attributes or nature because You also impart these to us in different ways.
We can share in these, because Your will is that we will transformed by them, and produce these graces in our lives, in church, and in society.
These graces are integral to Your Kingdom building work. As believers are transformed by these graces, all flowing out from You Yourself and Your nature, Your Kingdom is established, grows and advances.
We pray for the supernatural outworking of these blessing in Your people in Telford Elim, in person and online, and through us to the world as we witness to Christ.
We pray that people will see Your justice and love most clearly demonstrated in the death of Christ. It is in and through the cross of Christ that we get to share in Your divine gifts to us.
Holy Spirit, impart a revelation of the central place of the cross and blood of Jesus in our salvation, and our day by day sanctification. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
July 13 – Father, as Christ is formed in us, Your attributes become more fully present in our lives. Never completely, but more and more evident as we draw closer to You through Christ. Your Faithfulness is therefore a communicable attribute.
Grudem (Systematic Theology, p. 194), says this about God’s faithfulness, it ‘means that God will always do what He has said and fulfil what He has promised.’
Your word will be fulfilled, and Your promises are completely dependable.
Exodus 34:6-7, CSB,
‘The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: The Lord — the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, 7maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.’
Psalm 36:5-10 (verses 6-7 include all, the Gentiles), CSB,
‘Lord, your faithful love reaches to heaven, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your judgments like the deepest sea. Lord, you preserve people and animals.
7How priceless your faithful love is, God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8They are filled from the abundance of your house. You let them drink from your refreshing stream. 9For the wellspring of life is with you. By means of your light we see light. 10Spread your faithful love over those who know you, and your righteousness over the upright in heart.’
As Grudem also says, p.195, ‘God can be relied upon, and He will never prove unfaithful to those who trust what He has said.’ We trust You, our faithful God. You can be relied upon. You are faithful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
July 14 – 2 Thessalonians 2:13 – 3:5, CSB,
‘But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 14He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by what we said or what we wrote.
16May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.
1In addition, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured, just as it was with you, 2and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not all have faith. 3But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. 4We have confidence in the Lord about you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.’
Holy Spirit, help us to meditate upon this passage, and learn and then apply the truth and life You want us to receive from it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
