The Daily Prayers this week are on praying into great events.
June 24 – Father, as we watch what is happening across the world in terms of war, threat, famine, hardship, persecution and abuse, we have been very aware of the power of humanity to wreak havoc on other people.
We lift all those to You who are caught in the middle of these great events, including those forced to flee or live under great hardship. We remember hostages, and all having to leave their homes for safety – often still in great peril and danger.
We pray for breakthrough in conflicts so that justice, righteousness, and peace can reign. We ask that the rule of good law will be upheld, and for governments and agencies to supply the help needed.
May a new season of help be given to those in great need enabling them to live a productive and fulfilling life. We ask for the biblical principles of mercy, righteousness and godly justice be applied.
Equip Your local churches and Christians to be vessels of support, help and strength through these difficult days. Glorify Jesus, and save many in such situations. May His grace abound. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
June 25 – Father, we ask for You to uphold those tasked with bringing a just and righteous outcome into difficult situations. Many of whom are exhausted after continuous weeks of intense pressure and stress trying to help stabilise situations that are often beyond their control.
May Your people in governments, agencies, and in positions of influence and authority, shine out as beacons of stability, peace and wisdom in these days so that there is a great move of Your Spirit drawing many into Your Kingdom.
We pray for Your Kingdom to come and Your will to be done in each of these settings: Ukraine/Russia, Israel/Gaza, Sudan/Darfur, North and South Korea, Sub-Saharan Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East, the Far East, and many parts where human and drug trafficking are rife. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
June 26 – Farther, help us to remember that the Last Days will be times of great political, economic, social and environmental upheaval as the very fabric of this world’s systems, natural and human-based are shaken.
Hebrews 12:25-29, CSB, ‘See to it that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven.
26His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. 27This expression, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken — that is, created things — so that what is not shaken might remain.
28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.’
We keep our eyes on You Lord Jesus, knowing that You will be revealed from heaven in flaming fire at Your Second Coming. However, we chose to remember that You are also the shield and protector of Your people, and that we are secure in You.
We pray for the grace, anointing and biblical wisdom to be able to proclaim the great biblical truths about Your Second Coming, and to lift people above being trapped in the hopelessness of this present age. Amen.
June 27 – Father, as we think of the great needs all around us, we thank You for the spiritual gifts of giving, hospitality, mercy, service, encouragement, working of miracles, faith, prophecy and leadership which can all be so effective in helping alleviate great need.
We ask that in the areas affected, Your Spirit-filled people will be bringing their spiritual gifts to the table, and using them at Your Holy Spirit’s direction for the good of others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
June 28 – Father, all around us are great events, and the very human needs of ordinary people caught in the middle of these events. You call is to love our neighbours whether within our own town or globally.
As we look throughout the world – we recognize that the need is overwhelming. Refugees, persecuted Christians, famine, wars, devastated countries, natural disasters, and many great global problems.
Even as people try to resolve one set of problems, more needs arise. Money does make a profound difference for a little while, but it is not long before another famine or great need arises.
Jesus said, ‘you will always have the poor with you’ (Matthew 26:11a). Giving to alleviate great need is not just a one-time affair, it is a constant necessity in this world. There always are more poor people who need support.
It’s in this context of unending need that You, in Your grace, place Your people in this world. You call Your people to be generous, a giving Christian community.
We pray for godly wisdom in order to be a local Christian community who have received a spiritual gift of giving, and who are trained and sensitive to the operation of the Holy Spirit through this gift in us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
June 29 – Farther, the Lord Jesus, although relatively poor, not only fed thousands (Mark 6:41), but also gave us His life as a gift (John 15:13).
Elsewhere in the Bible, the widow (Mark 12:42 43), Tabitha (Acts 9:36), Barnabas (Acts 4:34 37), and the Macedonian church (2 Corinthians 8:1 2) all had the gift of giving.
Raise many up in our church with this spiritual gift.
We pray that as Mark Greenwood comes tomorrow to begin this long term partnership with us, there will be great blessing on his ministry here. May many be encouraged to witness, many equipped to share Jesus, to lead people to the Saviour in repentance and faith.
May this be the first steps in a productive, fruitful relationship which expands the Kingdom here in Telford & Wrekin / Shropshire. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
June 30 – Father, in Romans 12:8, it says, ‘if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously’ (NIV). “Giving” means to impart, to give over, share, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver or grant.
As a spiritual gift, giving is more than just casually giving something to someone in need. It implies the giving of yourself with the gift. Like the pianist accompanies the soloist, the person with this gift enhances the giving.
Together they are Your melody to the person receiving. When a person spends oneself on behalf of others, it can include giving of time, abilities, knowledge, love and resources to the cause of Christ.
Paul wrote to “give generously.” This implies both in content and with a cheerful attitude. When a person with this gift sees certain needs, Your Spirit nudges them in a way that they feel compelled to give what is needed in the situation as an agent of Your grace and mercy.
When they give, the receiver ends up knowing that it is You who orchestrated the whole thing. May this be a common experience in and through our church. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
