The Daily Prayers this week are those written for the church’s month of prayer and fasting.
Jan 10 – Nina Brazier – Father, Your Word is clear on how we should live, how to lead a righteous life, how to be more like Jesus. Daily I fall short of this, I react in worldly ways, at times I may let my emotions reign, Champion, introducing anger, disappointment or jealousy rather than showing love, compassion and patience.
Lord Jesus, help me daily to be more like You. To see others and the world as You see them. To love those who hurt or deceive, to be patient and show kindness to those that need it the most. Help me to be the person that diffuses tension, who brings peace into situations, and light into people’s lives. Help me to be more like You each day. As I try to be to more like you, I will grow closer to knowing Your will and be able to walk in that each day. Amen
Jan 11 – Nina Brazier – Lord Jesus, I want to be more disciplined, to read Your Word more frequently and more in depth. To learn more of You and increase my understanding. Help me to be disciplined each day in setting Your time aside as sacred, to not become distracted with unimportant things that do no expand my understanding of You.
Deepening this relationship is dependent upon me spending time with You. I want to become a prayer warrior who can speak into situations, who hears Your voice and can confidently be obedient. I want to learn to understand more of Your ways. As I make a commitment to walk deeper with You – guide me as I do, open my mind and give me the wisdom to understand. Amen
Jan 12 – Steve Johnson – Father, the ever-present One. Every moment of every day, always there. For me. Daily I hide myself in You. My “happy place”.
Give me the strength, the willingness, the ability to allow Your love to transform me when I am in that place with You. When my default is to withdraw into You, to hide, may that hiddenness be the melting pot where everything that is “me” becomes aligned with “You”. Father me in that place.
May those remaining “voices in my head” be stilled by Your “still small voice” in my heart. Populate the garden of my heart with trees bearing good fruit and leaves for healing. For me first, and then for others. May the streams of Living Water flow first into me. Giving me life. Then overflow out to touch others with life too. For Jesus. Amen
Jan 13 – Steve Johnson – Holy Spirit. My Comforter. My Confidante. My Counsellor. My Champion. My Friend. Change my mindsets to those of Christ. Soften my heart to “weep with those that weep” and “rejoice with those that rejoice”. Make my spirit more sensitive to You. Excited by what excites You.
Open my eyes to the unseen. To be more affected by the eternal than the temporal. More aware of the Kingdom of Heaven than the earth. Focus more on the “important” than the merely “urgent”. Make each day another in the exciting journey. To see what You are doing in the low days as well as the high. The difficult as well as the good. When You seem distant as well as when You feel near. Bring people who can be “God with skin on” to me when I need that, that I may be “God with skin on” to others in return. For the Kingdom and in Jesus’ name. Amen
Jan 14 – Rebekah Burke – Lord Jesus, we thank You for this new day, the opportunities it will bring, and the people we will be in contact with. We pray for divine appointments throughout the day; may we bring Your light and hope to every person that we encounter. We pray for Your Spirit to go before us; and that through this day we will be so close to You, thanking You and praising Your name.
We think about our churches Kids’ Extravaganza programme – that You will bless every child who attends, and each person who leads it. We thank You, Lord, for this ministry; protect it, and help and lead the church leadership team in guiding this important ministry. We pray that every child who attends will be rooted firmly in You, and that they will have a close and personal relationship with You, Jesus the Saviour and Lord. We give this all to You. Amen
Jan 15 – Rebekah Burke – Lord Jesus, we give every aspect of our lives; our families, our jobs, our finances, all of our responsibilities to You and lay them on the altar before You. Take control Lord, we surrender all that we are, and all that we do to You. If there is any part of our lives that we are holding on too tight to – enable us to release this to You. You told us that whom You set free is free indeed – we claim this complete freedom through You, Lord Jesus.
We think particularly today about our social media channels, and everything that we post and put out to the world. We don’t want to show a fake reality of who we are; help us not to compare ourselves to others. We are Your children, Lord, You are remaking us in Your image, and You have designed us – so enable us to step into all You have made and gifted us to be. We thank You, Lord, for this day; protect us and watch over us. Amen
Jan 16 – Natalie Headley – Father, God Almighty, the world tells us we don’t love ourselves enough; however, Your Word teaches us not to be like this.
As it says in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, NIVUK, ‘But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.’
Father, Your Word has shown us how not to live our lives but live a life of unselfishness. Help us, Father, to break free of the hold the world has on us, and renew us every day with Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
