This week’s prayers are written by Isaac Alawode. We will be praying for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit.
26 April – Thank You, Father for our Helper, the Holy Spirit. We are thankful that He, who is equal with You and the Lord Jesus – was sent to dwell within us. As Jesus said in John 14:16, ‘And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever.’
We honour and bless You, and humble ourselves before You asking for our Advocate to guide and fill us afresh with His power and anointing. Although we know through this verse that the Holy Spirit is with us forever – we do not want to be complacent in our walk with Your Spirit; and so, we pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit to set us apart from the world’s ways, in conjunction with Your word, cleanse us of all unrighteousness, and empower us for Christ’s service.
May the Spirit be pleased with us, and lead us in paths of truth, righteousness and justice – be our guide in the world we live in. In Jesus’ name. Amen
April 27 – Today we pray for the family of Phill Adams. As Phill’s funeral takes place, Holy Spirit, may You comfort Anna, Amy and Emily, and all Phill’s family and loved ones, and fill the Crematorium with Your presence and peace. Thank You for Phill, his life and his service. We honour his service as a former Deacon in our church, and thank You for His ministry and love for Jesus.
Holy Spirit, You are there to guide us into all truth and show us which path to take as believers in Christ. Lord, we reflect upon John 14:17, You are the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept You, because it neither sees nor knows You. But we know Christ, and you are the One who enabled us to be born again. Holy Spirit, help Telford Elim, in person and online, to glorify the Lord Jesus as You live with us and are in us. Lead us into the centre of Father’s perfect will for our church. In Jesus’ name. Amen
April 28 – Father, we pray for any member or person in or associated with Telford Elim going through a spiritual battle – that each one will receive a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. As 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 reminds us, ‘For although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, 4since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments 5and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.’
Thank You that the weapons of the Spirit, not those of the flesh nor of this present material world, are powerful and capable of destroying everything that comes against us. As we submit to You, resist the devil, he will flee. This is also Your promise to us.
As we seek to live a Spirit-filled life, ungodly arguments will be demolished, and every proud thing that opposes and seeks to destroy the true knowledge of God in Christ will be demolished. Every ungodly thought conceived in carnal minds will be brought into the light and unbelievers made subject to Christ to obey Him and acknowledge His truth and salvation. Hallelujah. Amen
April 29 – Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our struggles are not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. The Holy Spirit is able to equip us to stand in this battle, and see the Lord’s salvation and deliverance at work.
Ephesians 6:13-20, CSB, ‘For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. 16In every situation take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit — which is the word of God. 18Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. 19Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. 20For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.’
Lord, teach us how to take up Your full armour, use the sword of the Spirit, and to pray with perseverance and alertness at all times in the Spirit, asking especially that Telford Elim, in person and online, may boldly proclaim the Gospel of Christ. Amen
April 30 – We thank You, Lord, that You answer prayer and that You judge or weigh the attitudes of our heart. The Holy Spirit is there to intercede in our weakness, and aide us in our prayer to You with groans that words cannot express.
As such, we pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit so that each of us can live Spirit-filled lives. It is the Spirit’s fullness that changes how we live, worship, witness, serve and fellowship together. We pray for more people to hunger and thirst for the Spirit’s fullness; and for a particular anointing on Telford Elim to lead people into living in the experience of the Spirit’s fullness every day in their lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen
May 1 – As we walk by the Spirit, or let our conduct, behaviour and philosophy for life ‘be directed by the Spirit’ (FF Bruce), then we will also bear the fruit of the Spirit or the nine graces listed in Galatians 5:22-23. These nine fruit: (agape – divine) love, joy, peace (shalom), forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, all enable and help us create koinonia – Christian fellowship or communion with one another.
Father, we ask You to remind us to continually ask for an infilling of the Holy Spirit so that we can indeed walk or be directed by the Spirit. You know best what this type of living would mean for us, but Your word indicates so that we can be fruitful in life, worship, witness and service, but also in our true fellowship with one another as Christians.
When we do so we will bear these fruit, rather than ask for the fruit of the Spirit to be given to us. We want Christ to be formed in us, and pray for a renewal of our minds so that we can walk in partnership with the Spirit, truly fellowship with one another, and live in Your perfect will. We surrender our behaviour, personalities and characters to you so that they can be renewed by Your word and Spirit, and through our fellowship with one another seeking to live out the faith we profess. In Jesus’ name. Amen
May 2 – Father, we acknowledge that there is still sin in our lives, and this grieves Your Holy Spirit. We ask for forgiveness of any sin in our lives, and for a cleansing of our spirit, soul and body. We stand on Your word which states that if we will confess our sins to You, You will forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We thank You, Lord God, that confusion is not from You. We trust that the Holy Spirit will direct us into all truth. We pray for clarity in our lives and revelation and insight to read and understand Your word so that it can do its sanctifying or renewing work in us. Your word is also a mirror intended to expose to us that which does not bring honour to Christ’s name. We ask for the Holy Spirit to empower us in our lives, worship, witness, service, fellowship and ministries. This empowerment of the Spirit will do more than we could ever imagine, not that we are elevated, but, Lord Jesus, You will be lifted high through Telford Elim, in person and online. All glory to Your name. Amen
