This week’s daily prayers are written by Samuel Adjepong looking at the seven ‘I AM’ statements of Jesus in John’s Gospel. God had said to Moses in Exodus 3:14, “I AM WHO I AM,” and Jesus, while on earth, said that before Abraham was (before Abraham was even born) I AM. In this statement Jesus revealed that He is God, God the Son who is equal with Father God.
19 April – ‘And Jesus said to them “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger and he who believes in Me shall never thirst’ (John 6:35).
In Him is life and the life is the light of men. Thank You, Lord Jesus, that we have been born again by the Holy Spirit through Your blood shed on the cross for us. Your body was offered, none of Your bones were broken yet You suffered terribly for us, as a sacrifice for our sins so You are now the spiritual nourishment we need for our souls. You are the bread of heaven which sustains us spiritually.
In You we live and move and have our being. We begin this new day as we meditate on this amazing truth of who You are, the great I AM. Lord, we remember Your body offered and Your blood shed for us on the Cross, and give You thanks for the salvation that comes to all who will repent and believe in You, and the victory and forgiveness this brings into our lives.
In this #DoYouKnowHimTelford mission – as we think this week about Jesus is Enough, ‘I AM the bread of life’ speaks to us that You are all we need for life, worship, witness, service and ministry. We pray for many to come to You, Lord Jesus, in faith and repentance, be saved, and find the heavenly nourishment that satisfies the deepest hunger of the spirit and soul. Amen
20 April – ‘Jesus said I am the light of the world He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life…’ (John.8:12-30).
Without the heat and light of the sun life, as we know it, could not exist on earth. Jesus shines brighter than the sun and as the light of the world, He is the source of life. Those who sat in darkness have seen a great light which illuminates the way before us and brings Your salvation’s assurance and new life into our lives. Lord, You are the true light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
Father, You have opened our eyes to see who Jesus is, and have delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of Your love. We will never cease to praise Your name.
By Your grace, in Christ, we will serve You forever and speak of Your splendour and glorious majesty, telling others of Your wondrous works. We will give a testimony of Your great goodness to us in Christ during this #DoYouKnowHimTelford mission. Anoint our witness and testimony, by Your Spirit, so that many men, women, young adults, young people and children become Christians during this mission. In Jesus’ name. Amen
21 April – ‘Jesus said, “most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep’ (John. 10:7).
Jesus is the only way to salvation, and the only way to the heavenly Father. There is no other door. The Scriptures cannot overemphasise the uniqueness of Jesus.
Father, we thank You this day for the revelation of who You are. The god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe – yet Your light in and through Christ still shines. We pray for our love ones, for our neighbours and for our community. Pour our Your Spirit of conviction and draw many to Jesus, the only door into Your kingdom.
Christ is mighty to save. Lord Jesus, You have made a way, and although narrow, it is the path that leads to a life of denial, self-sacrifice and following You each and every day. We want to lift You up, Lord Jesus, and make You known in our community in person and online. Help us to do so effectively sowing the seed of Your Gospel liberally and seeing many turn to You, Jesus as both their Saviour and Lord. Amen
22 April – ‘Again Jesus said “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. But the hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them’ (John 10:11-12).
The Lord is our shepherd. Thank You, Lord Jesus that You care for us, provide for us, protect us, restore our souls and no one can snatch us from Your hand. You comfort those who mourn, You lead us in the paths of righteousness and will present us blameless before the throne of Your Father.
You have laid Your life down for Your sheep. We thank You and praise Your glorious name. You are the captain of our salvation and the great shepherd of the sheep.
Help us as individuals and as a church to hear Your voice today, and enable us to follow by Your word and Spirit’s leading, and, by Your grace, we shall serve You as we should in this life, and dwell with You forever. Amen
23 April – ‘Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26).
We can look forward in hope that those who die in Christ will be resurrected to everlasting life. Lord Jesus, You had power to lay down Your life, and power to take it up again; therefore, You are able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through You.
You give us life because You are God the Son, and have life in Yourself. What a mighty God You are. You have won the victory over sin, self, the world, Satan and death; after all, You are the resurrection and the life, the great I AM. Thanks be to God who has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
24 April – ‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (John.14:6).
All the Old Testament sacrifices and rituals of worship opened a temporary and temporal way to God. When Jesus came, lived, ministered, taught, died sacrificially and was resurrected – His sacrifice and teaching are effective and opened an eternal way to God. Jesus is the only Way, and following Him the true path to the Father.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, that Your revelation is not subject to debate for there is salvation in no other name under heaven except in Your name, our one true Mediator and Saviour. We have come to know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God – the central person of the whole universe.
You came to seek out and save the lost. You came to bring them into Your one flock – to rescue, heal and feed Your sheep. Lord, through our participation as a church in #DoYouKnowHimTelford, open blind eyes to see who You really are, and help us not to lead anyone astray by what we teach and stand for. We want to make You known as You are in our community, in person and online, so that many will be saved and brought into Your flock; for many to become disciple-making disciples. Amen
25 April- “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John.15:1-6).
Lord Jesus, thank You that You are the source of life. As we abide in You, by faith, we will produce the fruit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Those who abide in You are connected to the source of life, and the One who turn sinners into saints.
We pray that anything preventing each one of us truly abiding in You will be overcome so that we will abide rooted in You. This brings victory into every area of our lives, and brings glory to you. You are our God, and we will praise and exalt You.
As we focus on ‘Jesus the Shepherd’ this week in #DoYouKnowHimTelford, You are the great I AM and You have made yourself known as our Shepherd. Help us to present You clearly to everyone we come into contact with – grant us divine appointments this week to share about abiding in You, and what it means to live with You as our Shepherd. Apart from You we can do nothing. You are indispensable and life’s greatest reward, and so we worship and bless Your glorious name. Save many this week Lord, and bless our, Telford Elim’s, in person and online ministries and witness. Amen
